Fantasy brings the funk
AYDEN—Due to popular demand, the Fantasy Band will return to festival performing at 8 p.m. Friday on West Avenue Stage.
Take five dedicated musicians, add Beach, the hot sounds of Motown, and the smoothed out sounds of R&B, mix it with breathtaking vocals and a groove that's all their own, and you have the band known as "Fantasy.”
After their vibrant performance at the 2013 Collard Festival, members of the Collard Festival committee knew Fantasy was a must for this year’s entertainment lineup.
The five-member group features Eugene “Gene” Ervin on lead vocals, Steve Ervin on bass guitar, Terrence Barber on keyboard, Raymond “Squeaky” Barber on guitar and Jamarrial “Bro” Barber on drums.
As an original member, Gene’s musical background spans more than 25 years. He lights up any room with his soulful vocal style and his cheerfulness and diplomacy add substance to the group while keeping the party alive.
Steve has been credited for bring Fantasy together and his dedication to music and the band offers a constant sense of direction both on and off the stage.
Terrence, a native of Rock Hill, S.C., adds unique sounds of Hip Hop to the band that makes Fantasy second to none, while Squeaky’s 20-year run with Chairman of the Board offers funk and soul to the band’s sound. Bro, also a Rock Hill native adds solid drum beats with a touch of funky swing that keep the crowds moving. As the youngest member of the band, Bro keeps Fantasy’s energy at 100 percent.
Featuring hits like Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” hip-hop favorites from Nelly, Outkast and Ne Yo, R&B, funk and disco favorites, such as Barry White’s “Can’t Get Enough” and KC & the Sunshine Band’s “Shake Your Booty,” as well as songs from the Drifters, Chairmen of the Board, Otis Redding, Earth, Wind & Fire and much more, Fantasy is sure to bring something for every ear.
If you are looking for a high-energy show band that will keep you on your feet then Fantasy is the one.
