A message from Miss Ayden 2013...
I am Jennifer Frances Riggs, your 2013 Miss Ayden. It feels like just yesterday that I was up on stage waiting for John Moore to announce the winner of the 2013 Miss Ayden Scholarship Pageant. It took me a second to realize it was my name that he called. I was shocked, but undoubtedly honored.
I have had so many experiences this past year to appear in and out of the town of Ayden, to volunteer, and, my favorite part, speak to my town on a few occasions. I have made appearances in the Ayden, Snow Hill, and Winterville parades. I have also made appearances at the Veterans Day ceremony in Ayden and volunteered with the Ayden Community Theater.
I was also able to volunteer at Ayden Elementary for Read Across America. That experience is one that I will never forget. The chance to encourage the next generation to read is life-changing because reading is a fundamental key when it comes to education. Some adults cannot read, and it is important to encourage children to read so that they will not grow up illiterate.
This experience has been life-changing and absolutely amazing. I would like to thank everyone who has made this year possible. First, I would like to thank Mayor Steve Tripp for this opportunity. I am so blessed for this past year, and I cannot thank him enough. I would also like to thank my friends and family for all the support they have given me this past year. I would also like to give a special thanks to my mom and dad for all the time that they have driven me around to get me where I need to be and changing their schedules to work around my schedule.
I would also like to thank Bruce Abernethy at Phelps Chevrolet in Greenville for getting me some beautiful cars to ride in the parades. I would also like to thank Caylene Tripp for setting a good example for me and also helping me along my journey as Miss Ayden. Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank you, the members and town of Ayden. This experience would not have been possible without you. I am proud to say, for the last time, I am Jennifer Frances Riggs, your 2013 Miss Ayden.
